Competitions

For our first introductory competition we’re keeping things streamlined — Solo, Duos, or Teams across three levels/styles, and core age groups—so everyone can jump in (all levels and experience) and feel welcome. As momentum builds, we’ll grow and refine the offerings to match demand and craft the best experience for competitors. We’re confident this launch mix fits our NZ crowd and sets the stage for even more in the future.

Solos

For individual dancers ready to shine on their own, you will not dance on your own as there will be a set number of competitior on the floor with you (so you won't be lonely), but still with enough room to shine.

Solo competitors can enter one of three levels within their age group, all based on the nominated dance.

Level: Basic, Standard, or Freestyle.

Age Group: Youth, Adult, Senior *

Duos

Grab a partner and show your teamwork, musicality, and synchronisation. Great for all ages and styles. Duos Basic and Standard will dance the nominated dance, while Freestyle duos can create their own routine.

Level: Basic, Standard, or Freestyle.

Age Group: Youth, Adult, Senior *

Teams
+

Groups of 3 or more dancers. Bring the energy, formations, creativity, and performance flair to the floor. Teams will perform a Freestyle routine, allowing for maximum creativity and showmanship. This division is open to all ages.

Level / Age Group: Open Freestyle.

Levels

To ensure fair competition and an enjoyable experience for all, we have defined clear levels for each division.

Basic

Basic uses a nominated Line Dance that must be completed as per the Step Sheet without any kind of variation or presentation added to it (natural arm movement is permitted). Designed for novice or less experienced dancers, While this section is open to all competitors, it is designed for novice dancers or those with limited experience.

Standard

Standard is a Line Dance performed with all competitors moving on the same foot, in the same direction/flow at the same time with styling and presentation added to enhance the performance. This section is designed for the more confident dancer who have a fair understanding of dance.

Freestyle

Freestyle (Solos/Duos): A Freestyle routine that has been based around the nominated dance, limited to the duration of one song. Formation changes, mirror image, etc..., may be used after the completion of one Vanilla Wall.

Freestyle (Teams): An open age category that allows ultimate showmanship where performers dance for up to 5 minutes. Multiple songs in one track may be used. Formation changes, mirror image, cannon effects, etc., may be used. No Vanilla Walls are required in this category.

Age Groups

To ensure fair competition and an enjoyable experience for all, we have defined clear age categories for each division (Youth, Adult, and Senior), with specific age ranges. Age is determined as of the day of the competition. * Groups may be adjusted based on number of entries or scheduling requirements after consultation with entrants.

Youth

Youth competitors are split into two age groups, 12 & under, and 13 to 17 years. The age is determined as of the day of the competition.

Important: Please note if demand is low, the youth category may be combined into a single age group if number of entries received is insufficient to warrant separate age groups after consultation with entrants.

Adult

Adult competitors are split into two age groups, 18 to 29 years, and 30 to 49 years. The age is determined as of the day of the competition.

Important: Please note if demand is low, the adult category may be combined into a single age group if number of entries received is insufficient to warrant separate age groups after consultation with entrants.

Senior

Senior competitors are split into two age groups, 50 to 64 years, and 65 plus. The age is determined as of the day of the competition.

Important: Please note if demand is low, the senior category may be combined into a single age group if number of entries received is insufficient to warrant separate age groups after consultation with entrants.

* Age category maybe adjusted based on number of entries received after consultation with entrants.
